The first time I saw Red-necked Grebes was in April 1994 at Round Valley Reservoir in NJ. My notes say it was cold (in capital letters with an exclamation point). I wonder how cold it could have really been in April, but let’s skip over that shall we? It was bird 112 on my nascent life list.

I still have not seen a grebe in my life. Pity because they are so beautiful and noble.
