Grebes in Winter Wear

Grebes are similar looking in winter.  Can you tell the difference?  Which one is the Eared and which is the Horned?  tick. tick. tick… Leave the answer in the comments and tell me why.  You may use your book.  You may begin now.  (I always wanted to be a proctor.)

The first time I saw Red-necked Grebes was in April 1994 at Round Valley Reservoir in NJ.  My notes say it was cold (in capital letters with an exclamation point).  I wonder how cold it could have really been in April, but let’s skip over that shall we?  It was bird 112 on my nascent life list.
