Cattle Tyrant
On a visit to a cattle ranch in Uruguay I saw horses wandering around calmly munching grass on the lawn. I glanced around, then casually ambled toward them when I saw some small birds sitting on their backs. They appeared to be some sort of flycatcher. The horses looked up as I approached but then went back to eating; oblivious of their passengers. The birds flew from the horses’ backs to the ground to peck and then flew back to their perch. It appears that Cattle Tyrants, for that is what they were, are as fond of horses as cattle. I never saw one standing on anything other than a horse. They are pretty common, I ended up seeing them everywhere. But the first time is always the best. I love that there are tyrants in the bird world.
Next great adventure
Si, me voy a Argentina, Uruguay y Brasil. I am going on a cruise and hope to be birding in all 3 countries. If you know of a guide let me know. I have not found Birdingpal useful. I have a couple of leads though. I’ll keep you posted.
